In the study, diagonal cross bracing, masonry infill wall, externally CFRP laminates, and reinforced concrete jacketing for columns are considered as different strengthening techniques of one story reinforced concrete bare frame. Time history analysis for the frame subjected to EL-Centro (1940 N-S) earthquake ground motion is carried out using ETABS software. The obtained results from the time history analysis including axial and shear stresses, lateral displacement, acceleration and base shear with time are illustrated and discussed with/ or without the strengthening techniques. The study illustrates the influence and enhancement of each technique on the performance of one story bare frame subjected to EL-Centro earthquake motion.Assiut University, Faculty of EngineeringJES. KhalafallaConstruction Research Institute, NWRCJournal Article20181014Production of Nano cement using Nanotechnology is considered a new potential approach in the construction material industry. It has the ability to decrease the size of the cement particle to the Nano scale which increases the cement chemical activity. In this technology, high-performance cement is produced while preserving the environment. To evaluate the economics of establishing a Nano cement unit in an existing typical factory in Egypt, the Cement Factories on canal way in Egypt are selected as a case study. The economic indicators used for the evaluation include Net Present Value (NPV), Internal Rate of Return (IRR), and Break Even Point (BEP). The results were used to decide on the feasibility of building Nano cement unit. It was found that Net Present Value has a positive amount between two interest rate 10% to 30%. The Internal Rate of Return indicator requires increasing the revenue by 38.80% above the interest rate of Central Bank of Egypt. Finally, Break Even Point is gained before one year of production of 720000 ton annually and within 6 years at variable cost/price. Therefore, establishing the product line of Nano cement in Egypt raises the economic return and enhances the concrete quality.Assiut University, Faculty of EngineeringJES. RizkFaculty of Engineering, Beni-suef UniversityJournal Article20180925Growth and success of any industry on the whole, depends primarily on the market demands, efficient technology and availability of input resources. In spite of development of different types of binders, cement continues to be the major building material for civil construction all over the world, as no other material is likely to substitute it in the near future. The normal flow sheet for cement production, either by dry or wet operations begins with crushing of the two main components. Either limestone or shale are crushed separately then, ground simultaneously as a mixture (80% limestone and 20% shale) in a ball mill. This procedure consumes more energy in grinding due to the act of the shale as cushions between the grinding elements (balls) and the crushed limestone particles. Consequently, the main objective of this investigation is to evaluate the cushioning effect of the shale during grinding the limestone and shale simultaneously as a mixture. It is confirmed that grinding the two components of the cement raw meal simultaneously as a mixture decreases the specific surface area of the product by 25% approximately. The relative suggestion is to grind these two components of the raw meal separately followed by adding blending unit before going to calciner.Assiut University, Faculty of EngineeringJES. The present study investigates the influence of bath composition, which included nickel sulphate, sodium hypophosphite, and glycine on the deposition rate, coating roughness, and final coating microhardness with using of Taguchi techniqe. The results reveal that final coating roughness and hardness can be optimized by controlling bath composition. The achieved minimum average surface roughness (Ra) was 80.7 nm and the highest coating hardness was 1145 HV. Assiut University, Faculty of EngineeringJES.
