Abstract
Present paper discusses the performance of an irreversible regenerative The present study investigates the wind conditions in Assiut city, Egypt through the determination of the shape and scale parameter of the Weibull function. The two Weibull parameters are used to estimate the exceedance probability that reflects the ventilation effectiveness of the incident wind. In addition, the Weibull parameters are employed to estimate the wind power density and the available wind energy in Assiut city. The measured wind data covers a period of five years, ranging from 2006 to 2010. The study results show that; the numerical values of the shape and scale parameters are varying over a wide range. The shape parameter varied from 1.8 to 4.57 and the scale factor ranged from 3.74 to 6.38 m/s. In addition, the estimated wind potential for energy generation in Assiut city show that the electricity generation may not be economic since the available wind energy is less than 200 kWh/m2/year.
