EVALUATION THE EFFECTIVENESS OF URBAN CORRIDORS AS A TOOL FOR REGIONAL DEVELOPMENT
Electrical Engineering Department , Faculty of Engineering , Minya University, Egypt
Abstract
Urban Corridors are an important tool to achieve regional development accompanied with a justice distributionof Investments and economic efficiency. There is no planning frameworkto control, guide and direct the growth of urbanCorridors. To avoid random Development, Urban Corridors must be developed within the framework of the scheme and according to specific criterion by which decision makers can set priorities for the development of urban Corridors. The research aims to determine the criteria and indicators that enable us to evaluate the effectiveness of the corridors in terms of the rapidly revenue of development and their ability to attract residents. To achieve the objective of this research the descriptive analytical method was used. Some experiences and success stories of urban development of corridors were studied and analyzed.Inductive deductive approach was used to identify the most important criteria that have been pursued for the selection of those corridorsfor the purpose of development. A questionnaire was conducted on some regional urban planning experts to determine the relative weight of each criterion. The most important conclusions of the research were that: 1- the linear model of development is more effective in providing efficient service of public transportation and in creating urban integration than any other model; 2- Number of criteria used for evaluating the corridors and their relative weights varies according to the visions and goals of each state; 3- There is a difference between policy-makers, experts, researchers and executives when determining the relative weight of criteria and indicators. Criteria and indicators that maximize the revenue of investments was the top priority of policy-makers and executives.
