Abstract

Perception is the process through which people communicate, and interact with their
surrounding environment, as it is filled with stimuli that perception help us rate and
organize in a way that gives us a meaning. This perception is formulated by the person’s
culture and perceptual concepts, according to that the reaction of the person to his
environment is determined. This stage paves to a certain behavior towards the
environment. Therefore, our behavior depends on our understanding of what around us.
Nowadays، architecture has no longer have specific cultural reference, as a result the gap < br />between architecture and culture of person is widened، which may cause malfunction in
the Perception process.
This research studies models of islamic heritage architecture in Egypt because it carries
inside a lot of non materialistic dimensions that is associated with the culture of the
community and its spiritual dimensions. We will recognize the non-material aspects of this
architectural and urbanism heritage, and monitor their impacts on the Perception, and the
personal response towards the environment and personal interaction with it.
The research concludes that compatibility between non-material dimensions of buildings,
heritage and the culture of the person leads to easy understanding for meaningful values in
the building environment. Through that the Perception process will occur properly and this
will lead to camaraderie and sense of belonging towards the place, thus it will initiate
positive behaviors towards this place.
