Voltage stability problems have been one of the major concerns for electric utilities as a result of increase demanding of electric power. This paper develops a new voltage collapse proximity indicator using catastrophe theory together with comparative singularity of power flow Jacobian and modal analysis. The application of the proposed indicator has been demonstrated on multimachine power systems
